<hi style=afpcap>Army preference for primary training aircraft favoured biplanes such as the Boeing Stearman, although monoplane designs were included in the inventory. One which served for a number of years was the Fairchild PT-19 with more than 3,000 being ordered. In fact the order book was such that the Hagerstown facility was unable to cope, with additional production lines being established by Aeronca and St. Louis.</hi>
